Laurie Jo began taking photography seriously in 2003 when she purchased a digital camera. Several cameras later she photographs, processes and prints her own work. The photo equipment is Nikon. Printers are Epson with archival inks and Epson premium papers. Photo recognition began in 2004 when a picture won the local phone company cover contest and another picture was juried into the AlaskaWild Photography Competition. Since that time there has been: another telephone book cover, honorable mention and best of show in AlaskaWild Competitions, photos published in the 2006 online Showcase and Illusion Journal with the North American Nature Photography Association, and a photo included in the 2008 Northern Lights Calendar through Greatland Graphics. Two photos were selected for the first 2008 MTA calendar. Two other photos have been selected by Greatland Graphics for two of their 2009 calendars. Laurie Jo was one of the judges for the 2007 Alaska State Fair Photography Contest. In 2009 her images won best of show and best in category in the AlaskaWild Photography Competition.

After living in California and Hawaii Laurie Jo moved to Alaska in 1988. She left for two years to attend a graduate program through the University of Montana. She had worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist in California, Hawaii, and Alaska prior to retiring in 2006. She worked as an Adjunct Professor in the Communication Department with the University Of Alaska from 1997-2009. In her spare time she has tried her hand at web-design creating this site and one for the Alaska WildBird Rehabilitation Center.
